The Gridley community pool is open for the summer, and lessons are being offered in two separate sessions that stretch into July.
Anita Holland has been teaching swimming for a number of years. She’s doing the lessons again this summer, and is very happy that the pool is open for business for the community after nearly a year of uncertainty over whether or not it would be shut down and demolished by Butte County.
Lessons will be 30 minutes apiece and run for two weeks. The first session starts next Monday, June 19. Lessons begin at 10 a.m. The cost is $50.
The second session begins July 10 and will feature evening classes starting at 5:45 p.m.
In addition, a synchronized swimming class starts next Monday and runs until the end of July. That class costs $75 and will be held from 9-9:45 a.m. Monday through Friday.
Holland said one of her favorite things about teaching swimming is watching a student progress over a session of lessons.
“They start out not knowing anything, maybe being afraid of the water,” Holland said. “By the end, they’re doing all kinds of things.”
