A medical benefit Tri-Tip and Rib Dinner is being planned for Gridley resident Brian Werner, who has Advanced Stage Kidney Cancer.
Brian and his wife Rhonda, have two daughters Alexis, ten-years-old and Ashlyn, eight-years-old, and they are in need of the community's support to help pay vast medical expenses.
Werner grew up in Biggs and has worked for Jones Flying Service for 23 years. He is 41-years-old.
He was diagnosed in August last year. Having a kidney removed October 1, 2008 led to lesions being found on both his lungs, six weeks later. The lungs were checked in December and the biopsies confirmed that the lesions were cancerous.
He began his first round of Proleukin therapy treatments at UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center on Tuesday.
Proleukin is an immunotherapy agent that activates the body's own immune system to recognize and eliminate certain kinds of cancer cells. After a five day pretreatment he will be admitted into the intensive care unit for Cycle 1, receiving three injections a day for a period of five days. He will then return home to let his body adjust before heading back to UCSF for Cycle 2. This process can be repeated as many as four times.
The Tri-Tip and Rib Dinner will be held Thursday, January 29 and will include a silent auction.
The dinner will be held at the Moose Lodge and will be served from 4 to 8 p.m. The cost is $20 per adult and $12 for children under 12. Ages four and under are free.
Take out dinners will be available and pre-sale tickets are very important so that organizers know how much food to purchase. Tickets will be available at the door.
Pre-sale tickets are available at The Gridley Herald, Ace Hardware and The Wishing Corner.
