96 student athletes from 8 local area teams competed last Saturday in the annual Manzanita Invitational Basketball Tournament. The tournament was a round-robin format with four girls teams and four boys teams.
Sponsored by the Manzanita Boosters Club, the one-day tourney produces young talent who traditionally move up and become stalwarts of the local high school programs.
In the boys division, the host Mustangs captured first place, followed by Sycamore in second, Ishi Hills (Oroville) finished third, and the Chico Jr. High seventh grade team finished fourth. The All-Tournament team for the boys' bracket was made up of Ethan Hamel of Chico Jr., Marcus Hopper of Ishi Hills, David Gomez of Sycamore, and Jack Becker of Manzanita. The boys' tournament MVP was Manzanita's Angel Santana.
