Irene P. Flores, age 78, passed away quietly in her sleep on Palm Sunday, April 9, 2017.
Irene was born in Colusa, California on Sunday, December 11, 1938. Her parents, Manuel and Beatrice Perry were longtime residents of Gridley. Irene was the youngest of her siblings, Alice Perry Sherrets and Joe Perry. She was an aunt to many nieces and nephews. Irene attended Gridley schools and was a graduate of Gridley High School. She loved being a Bulldog, cheerleader and GIBT queen. Irene was also part of a large Portuguese community. Her family were active members of the Portuguese Hall – SPRSI, Luso-American and UPPEC (now UPEC). She enjoyed her time as Little Queen and Big Queen at the Portuguese Hall. Irene was married to Frank S. Flores for 55 years until his passing in March of 2011. She was committed to her family and loved her two sons, Perry and John Flores. During their childhood years she volunteered at their school, St. Charles Borromeo School, as well as with their Webelos Cub Scouts, baseball and other outdoor activities. Irene also took her boys on a memorable Disneyland vacation. Irene enjoyed being at home with her caregiver where she was able to indulge in her simple pleasures; reading her Gridley Herald and being entertained by her eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Irene may have been a long time resident of the Sacramento area, but her heart was always in Gridley.
May you find the blessings in everything.
