A collision between a freight train and an SUV led to the death of an unidentified man Monday afternoon near Live Oak, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at about 4 p.m. Monday at the intersection of State Highway 99 and Clark Road.
The driver of the SUV reportedly tried to go around the closed crossing arms and became stuck on the tracks. He died instantly; alcohol containers were reportedly found inside the vehicle.
State Highway 99 remained open during the investigation., which is ongoing, according to the CHP.
