The Live Oak High School softball team showed some good flashes, but an early deficit was too much to overcome in a 13-8 loss to Pierce.

With the loss, Live Oak dropped to 5-7 on the 2017 season.

New Live Oak coach Sierra Johnson liked some of what she saw from her young team, but said it needs to work on not digging itself early holes in games.

The Lions fell behind 13-4 early in this one.

Hannah Pendergrass was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and Abby Davis was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

In baseball action on Tuesday at Live Oak, meanwhile, the Lions struggled at the plate and in the field in an 18-8 loss to Pierce.

Elsewhere in the area, Gridley’s baseball team had a four-game winning streak snapped in a 9-3 loss on the road at Paradise.

Gridley’s softball team dropped a 17-0 decision on the road at Paradise on Tuesday, but rebounded on Wednesday with an 11-3 win over Biggs.
