On July 4, 2014, a cell phone was found by an anonymous citizen and was turned into the Gridley-Biggs Police Department. During an initial search of the phone to determine a possible owner, Officer(s) located what was believed to be juveniles engaged in sexual acts (child pornography). Based upon the Officer(s) initial findings, the investigation was turned over to the GBPD Detective Division for further investigation.

On July 7, 2014, the GBPD Detective Division initiated an investigation. With information obtained in the investigation along with several search warrants, GBPD Detective Joel Bassett identified Vincent Edward Farrell, 33 years of age of Gridley as the cell phones owner. Based upon information obtained during the investigation, Detective Bassett obtained a search warrant for the residence and person of Vincent Edward Farrell for suspected child pornography.

On July 24, 2014, at approximately 0840 hours, Detective Bassett along with Officers of the Gridley-Biggs Police Department served a search warrant in the 500 block of Lincoln Street in Gridley at the residence of Vincent Edward Farrell. During the service of the search warrant additional amounts of suspected child pornography was located. Vincent Edward Farrell was subsequently arrested and later booked into the Butte County Jail for a Felony violation of section 311.11(A) of the California Penal Code (possession of materials with underage individuals engaging in sexual content) and a Felony violation of section 311.11(C) of the California Penal Code (possession in excess of 600 images of underage individuals engaging in sexual content).
