  • Measure D projects for Gridley elementary schools

    • email print
  • The June 5, 2012 passage of Measure D for the Gridley Unified School District means several projects for the three elementary schools,  all of which will be completed this summer. Work began at Sycamore and Wilson Schools June 6, the last day of school and is progressing quickly.
Wilson School's interior is currently getting a major facelift with new HVAC being installed in every classroom along with metal fire resistant interior classroom doors and wider door frames for ADA compliancy.
The new HVAC projects for Wilson and Sycamore mean having the units inside and out, rather than on their roofs where leaks have been a problem in the past from the units.
Wilson School was built in 1963 and this is the first time work has been done in this school. The bathrooms are essentially torn up, especially the boys as ADA requirements are met.
Randy Hill Construction is the contractor for Wilson School.
Sycamore School is currently having a new roof put on and McKinley and Wilson Schools will also have new roofs this summer.     McKinley School will also be getting new, wider, fire-rated doors for each classroom that allow for wheelchair accessibility. All restrooms will be upgraded as handicapped accessible facilities. The $2.5 million school bond passed at 55.36 percent.
If the State passes a school facility bond, Gridley will be eligible for approximately $5.5 million in matching funds from the State to replace aging portable classrooms and install new lighting,  cabinetry, carpets and windows. Developer fees are also an important part of the equation when it comes to funding these large projects.
A construction meeting is held each week between the construction supervisor, the architect, the building inspector, project manager, and Principal Chris McIntire who is in charge of the bond projects completion.
When the schools projects are completed in time for the first day of school, the community will be delighted in the upgrades and improvements which they are responsible for in passing the bond.
Thank you to everyone who made this possible.
