  • Each year the forty-plus Lions Clubs of District 4C-1 in northern California are invited to nominate a community citizen who represents the motto of Lionism “WE SERVE”.  These individuals are nominated because they are so involved in community service activities in their local town.
This year the Lions of the District have selected Joe Lamson of Gridley as the Citizen of the Year.   Lamson is the manager of the Gridley Les Schwab franchise.  He was recognized at the recent Lions Convention held in Redding where his community service was noted to the many Lions gathered at the convention.  To name just a few, Joe is a member of the Knights of Columbus, Monday Night Football committee, on the Board of the Gridley Schools Foundation, and an Ambassador for the Gridley Chamber of Commerce.  He spends most of his days off volunteering to cook for the FFA fundraisers at all the local high schools, Little League baseball, 4-H groups, or cheerleaders.  He, along with Les Schwab, gives up the area around the tire shop in Gridley for fundraising barbeques, car washes, yard sales, and advertisements of community need or activities.  In addition he volunteers to help with fundraisers for Knights of Columbus dinner at the Butte County Fair, Sacred Heart Church breakfasts, Masonic breakfasts, Biggs Youth Basketball camp, Red Suspenders Day bed races and tire races, or helping to put on meals for all of the out of town high school students who participate in the annual Gridley High School Invitational Basketball Tournament.  It was noted at the convention, that if ever there was a member of the community who is known for his dedication, work ethic, and willingness to help anyone in need, it is Mr. Joe Lamson.
Joe and his wife Sabine have lived in Gridley for the last twelve years.  They have two boys both attending college.
