  • The trial date of May 5 for the three men charged in the 2012 Gridley shooting that left one dead was vacated last Wednesday.
Butte County Superior Court Judge Tamara Mosbarger granted a request for continuance for the three defendants: Fredy Caudillo, 19, Ricky Caudillo, 17 and Alejandro Javier Gonzalez, 21.
Jesse Santana, the attorney for Gonzalez, requested for the May 5 trial date to pushed off at least two weeks, as he is currently on trial in Yuba County. Santana and fellow attorney David Vasquez were charged for an allegedly negotiating an illegal contract between a client, Joseph Griesa, and a 17-year old girl who had made accusations of sexual assault against Griesa in 2007.
Gonzalez and both Caudillos were charged with the murder of Alonzo Robles-Morales after a vehicle-to-vehicle shooting near Cedar and Indiana streets in Gridley in October 2012. They are also charged with a felony count of shooting at an occupied vehicle as well as gang and firearm enhancements. The victim, Robles-Morales, was just 18 at the time.
Both Caudillos are also facing charges for their alleged role in a shooting that took place the day after Robles-Morales’ death at the 7-Eleven in south Oroville
A new trial date is likely to be set at a May 7 hearing. The defendants remain in custody.
