A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Carmelita Adams Antes, 94, of Gridley. She was born November 16, 1919, in Gridley, California to Charles and Bessie Edson. Carmelita was active in several service organizations and participated in many community projects for the betterment of Gridley and Gridley Schools. Her “pet” project was spearheading the Sacred Heart Food Closet which continues today under the leadership of Dan and Connie Fischer. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, John Adams and Daniel Antes, her two sons, John “Chuck” Adams and William “Bill” Adams, a son-in-law, Ernie Casillas, two brothers, Joseph and Leo Edson, two sisters, Elizabeth Edson and Elenore Jeffers and a cousin James “Jim” Edson. She is survived by two daughters Jane Ramage and Joan Casillas, and a daughter-in-law Kathy Adams. Carmelita was loved and enjoyed twelve grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. A Rosary will be held at the Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2013. Father Avram Brown from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church will officiate at the Mass. Contributions to the Sacred Heart Food Closet or a favorite charity are suggested by the family. Arrangements are entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.
