Gridley’s scoring leader sophomore Quinn Spring has been on fire so far in the 2013-14 season. Spring has led the Bulldogs in each of their four games this year and is averaging over 17 points per game. After opening the season-opener with 21 points against Las Plumas, he raised the bar with 22 in the Gridley’s 58-34 win over Central Valley in the opening round of the Herb Jergentz Basketball Tournament in Durham over the weekend. Senior Shobi Khan had 11 points in that game, while sophomore Angel Santana finished with seven. Sophomore Grayson Wedin added another six for the Bulldogs. Gridley dropped the second round game to BVL rivals Orland by a score of 54-46. Spring finished with 14 points to lead the Bulldogs, while Khan had 10 and sophomore Sam Cota added seven. Spring continued his solid play in the third place game of the Durham Tournament with 13 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 46-32 victory over the hosting Trojans. Santana added 11 more, while senior Juan Magana scored seven and Khan finished with five for Gridley (2-2). Both Spring and Khan were selected to the all-tournament team. Gridley opens up the 60th Annual Gridley Invitational Basketball Tournament tomorrow against 2012 regional finalist Campolindo High School at 7 p.m.
