The Veterans of Foreign Wars, VFW Ladies Auxiliary,  American Legion  and The Military Court of Honor committee would like to invite everyone from all counties to join the groups at the second Pearl Harbor ceremony, Saturday, December 7, 2013. The ceremony will start promptly at 9:30 a.m., with a moment of silence at 9:48 a.m.  The ceremony will take place at the Military Court of Honor at Gridley Biggs Cemetery. Since it falls on a Saturday this year it is the hope that families, children, teens and young adults will attend to keep the memory alive for our future generations. On this date in history, December 7,1941, the 72nd anniversary of one of the most devastating days in history. The Japanese struck Pearl Harbor without warning. Fighters, Dive bombers emblazoned the U.S. airfields while the Japanese high level bombers mounted a furious attack on warships of the U.S. Pacific Fleet. The Americans were caught completely off guard, of the eight heavy battleships' at the naval base seven were sunk or severely damaged. The sneak attack which left 2,330 dead and 1,145 wounded sent a wave of shock and outrage across the United States. "Lest we forget" let us pause to remember all the men and women in uniform who have made supreme sacrifice in service to our country, let us honor all those who have returned safely from conflict. We would like to please encourage all veterans to attend. WWII Veterans and Pearl Harbor survivors are encouraged to attend.
