Coach Greta Jones said, “This is a really good group of athletes. They get along very well and understand the term 'team.' They work hard and like each other.”
In what has become something of a tradition, the Mount Shasta Bears are the 2013 Shasta Cascade League JV volleyball champions.
Mount Shasta defeated Burney and Etna last week to finish first with an 11-1 record.
They won Thursday, Nov. 7 in Etna, 25-16, 25-22.
Kacey Cain served for eight points in a row to give the JV Bears a 23-8 lead in Thursday's first game.
"Serving was a big part of our success," said coach Greta Jones.
She said returning sophomores Kaycee Sarti, Carlie Dunlap, Taylor Pearson and setter Mary Taylor provided a strong foundation for this year's championship team and helped a good group of freshmen.
"This is a really good group of athletes," said Jones, whose JV teams have now won four league championships in a row. "They get along very well and understand the term 'team.' They work hard and like each other."
Team members are: Kacey Cain, Emily Andrus, Mikaela Cartwright, Teresa Moro, Peyton Hough, Tyyler McKnight, Taylor Pearson, Samantha Benedict, Carlie Dunlap, Carina Lopez, Mary Taylor, Kaycee Sarti, Sydney Cross, Miranda Zanni.
