Jessie Vallejo is someone we have watched grow up over the years having fishing pictures taken with his grandpa Doyle Sample wearing his big belt buckle to becoming a Gridley FFA member as a teenager. On Saturday, October 19, 2013, Vallejo took top honors with this 193 pound Progress Pig (gilt) at the 2013 Jr. Grand National Stock Show at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. Vallejo wasn't sure how he was going to juggle moving to Modesto to begin his freshman year at Modesto Junior College leaving his 11 hogs behind for his family to care for at Vallejo's “Butte View Showpigs.” Hard work, dedication and determination paid off when Judge Ben Bobell of Lincoln, IL shook Vallejo's hand and awarded him the title of Supreme Champion Hog. Proud mother LaShel Sample and brother Jayden watched as Jessie participated in the Parade of Champions at the Jr. Grand National Rodeo Saturday evening, a great way to end an amazing day, according to LaShel. Vallejo has three hogs that will be going to Arizona Nationals in late December. Vallejo received $2,500 at the Cow Palace for his Grand Champion plus a new belt buckle to add to his collection, the “elite of the elite” buckles.
