Bulldogs avoid shut out in final seconds
With under a minute left on the clock in Friday night’s game against the Orland Trojans, Gridley fans went wild after Emery Haddy connected with Shobi Khan in the back of the end zone for six. However, the excitement wasn’t to celebrate a victory; they were celebrating because the Bulldogs had avoided a shutout. After trailing behind 20-0 heading into half time, there was little chance for a come-from-behind victory. But still, Gridley played with heart and refused to give up. Running backs Colton Graff and Jonathan Villapania ran hard the entire night, but there was little they could do against one of the better defenses in the Northern Section. Despite being on the field a large portion of the game, the Bulldog defense continued to show promise. The final score of the game was 34-7. Rodrigo Navarro had the PAT for the Bulldogs. This Friday, Gridley (1-3) looks to shed the burden of last week’s loss by taking on the Anderson Cubs. The Cubs enter the game 1-3, with one of their losses being a 42-3 defeat against Orland. Anderson is coming off a 21-18 victory over Las Plumas. Last season, the Bulldogs suffered a 49-6 loss while visiting the Cubs.
