  • Pianist Richard Cionco to Give Concert and Master Class at CSU, Chico

  • CSU, Sacramento piano professor and internationally acclaimed recitalist, recording artist and composer Richard Cionco comes to Chico State to present a “truly virtuosic and beautiful program” on Sunday, October 13 at 2 p.m. in Rowland-Taylor Recital Hall. "The performance will feature Dr. Cionco performing music by Bach-Siloti, Schumann, Janacek, Liszt, and himself," said event coordinator Dr. Natalya Shkoda, Assistant Professor of Piano and Coordinator of Keyboard Studies at CSU, Chico. A master class for Chico State piano students will follow the performance at 4 p.m. in Rowland-Taylor Recital Hall. “Both events will be meaningful, highly educational and enjoyable,” said Dr. Shkoda. Advance tickets for the concert, at $15 general, $13 senior citizens, and $6 students/children, are available at the University Box Office located at the corner of Third and Chestnut Streets. "The master class will feature the best Chico State piano students who have to audition to be accepted to participate into the master class," said Shkoda. The master class is free and public is invited to watch. For more information contact Dr. Shkoda at (530) 898-4043. “The master class with Dr. Cionco will be a very exciting event and an opportunity for pianists to share their gift of music in a learning environment,” said Ashley Alexandru, piano student of Dr. Shkoda. Lovers of classical piano music are encouraged to attend future piano events in Chico organized by Dr. Shkoda. The 2013-2014 piano events include Dr. Shkoda's performance of J. S. Bach Keyboard Concerto in F Minor with the North State Symphony at the NSS Holiday Concert on December 13, 2013; the Kruschke Piano Competition on April 5, 2014; the "88 Keys at Chico State" on April 26, 2014; and students' degree recitals in spring 2014. Richard Cionco Bio Dr. Cionco is a graduate of University of Maryland and the Juilliard School. The New York Times has praised him for his “sensitive pianism” and his solo CD, Latin American Music for the Solo Piano, was favorably reviewed by the American Record Guide. He has performed in Japan, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Denmark, Canada, and throughout the U.S. A regular host of master classes and topics discussions for professional music teachers’ associations, Dr. Cionco also teaches in Italy at the Orfei International Music Festival and in Germany at the Sulzbach-Rosenberg International Music Festival each summer. Dr. Cionco is a Steinway artist.
