  • Betty Ellen Frost passed away September 13, 2013 in Yuba City, California after a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by many family members the last few days of her life and in her final moments. Betty was born May 6, 1932 in the back room of a bank, in Crawford, Oklahoma. She and her parents moved to the Manzanita area of Gridley, California from Oklahoma during the Great Depression. Eventually they would go on to become dairy farmers for many years. Betty attended and graduated from Manzanita Elementary and Gridley Union High School. During the late 60's through the early 1980's she owned and operated the A&W Root Beer Stand in Gridley. Betty learned and was self taught in many areas. Her talents included but were not limited to: drawing up the blue prints to the home in Gridley her children were raised in. She was as able building forms, mixing and pouring concrete, as she was making dresses from store bought patterns. She made hand braided rugs, canned peaches, tomatoes, etc and she loved to pickle and bake. Her dill pickles and homemade pies reached legendary status in the family and the surrounding communities. She could handcraft dolls, knit afghans, and was always making a quilt for special occasions. Betty was an avid reader and her collection of books would rival many small libraries. But Betty's biggest love was her family. She treated everyone the same handing out discipline when needed from children, to grands and even great-grands but mostly she just handed out love. She was the most loving and caring person most who knew her will ever know. She was always there with open arms and an open door when she was needed and never turned away a family member in need. Her twinkling eyed smile, the lilt of her laughter, the strength of character will be sorely missed by all of us in her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Pearl Muncy and a brother, Charles Muncy. She is survived by her brother Bill Muncy (Ruth) of Wellington, Nevada, and her sister-in-law Rita Muncy (Charles). She is also survived by her son, Frank Frost Jr. (Joanna), of Sutter; daughter, Susie Armstrong (David), of Marysville; son David Frost, of Biggs; daughter, Marylou Long (Alan), of Browns Valley; and son, James Frost; of Gridley. Betty was grandmother to 11 grand children and 15 great-grandchildren. She was a big part of ALL their lives and treated them all in the same loving way. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Per Betty's wishes a private celebration of life will be shared with family only. The family would like to thank the staff and administration of The Fountains in Yuba City, Sutter North Hospice and the many physicians and nurses that provided care and comfort to our mother in her final days. In lieu of condolences or flowers the family suggests contributions in Betty's name to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund, www.curealz.org.
