  • Butte County Behavioral Health is a very vital part of our community along with Addictions Specialist/Counselor Angel Calderon. Calderon is concerned about the teenagers in the area who are purposely eating marijuana laced cookies and brownies to get high. He has spoken with four students ages 13, 14, 15 and 16 who refused to give up their suppliers names but all described the same symptoms. Symptoms include panic disorders, fear, anxiety attacks and paranoia. “Even small amounts are causing similar symptoms in these students. These are kids who have never had chemicals in their systems and feel bombarded by it,” Calderon stated. Calderon is concerned because it is very seldom that he has kids come in with the same symptoms. The symptoms are all related to consuming marijuana laced cookies. Once the marijuana has been baked, the symptoms become that much stronger causing a bad reaction. Calderon wants parents and school officials to keep an eye out for children sharing cookies. “It's a shame, but it's happening,” he stated.
