  • Betty Lou Storm, a resident of Yuba City, California for over 50 years passed away peacefully at home with her family at her side on September 12, 2013. She was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to Chester and Helen Hale, on July 29, 1931. She was the oldest of four children. As a young child she grew up surrounded by aunts, uncles and dozens of cousins. She always joked that 18 of the 25 students that attended her grammar school were either her siblings or cousins. During WWII Chester relocated the family to Louisville, Kentucky to aid in the war effort. Betty had just completed her first year of High School in Kentucky when the family moved again to Biggs, California. Betty attended Biggs High School where she was active in the drama club and played softball. She graduated as Salutatorian of her class. While in high school, Betty met Bob Storm, the love her life. They married in 1951 and settled in Gridley where Bob farmed and Betty worked at the Butte County Fair. In 1957 they moved to Yuba City where Betty devoted her life to raising her two children, Jim and Cherie. Betty was a member of Rainbow Girls and Jr. Women. She also served her community as a volunteer for the PTA, 4-H and Cub Scouts. She enjoyed playing, golf, cards and traveling the world with friends and family. She leaves behind her husband Bob of 62 years; son, Jim Storm and daughter, Cherie Pappas. She is also survived by her brother Steve Hale and his wife Darlene; sister-in law, Alice Storm; three grandsons, Daniel Storm and Drew and Rob Pappas; a great-grand daughter, Shelly Storm and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Rosa Munoz, Betty's kind and amazing caregiver, the staff at the Gardens, and the firemen at the Yuba City Fire Department located on Ohleyer Road. Graveside services will be held at Biggs-Gridley Cemetery located at 2023 State Highway 99 just north of Gridley, California on Monday, September 16, 2013 at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow at the Gridley Moose Lodge located at 1533 Highway 99, Gridley, California. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in honor of Betty to the Alzheimer's Association or Yuba City Fire Department located at 150 Ohleyer Road, Yuba City, California.
