In a special meeting called to award a bid for the construction of the much needed 6th Street bridge in Biggs, Council members voted for the lowest bidder August 29, 2013.
Engineer Steve Speights had estimated the job at $750,000. Council members awarded the project to Shasta Constructors of Redding in the amount of $597,976. Four bids ranged from this amount all the way up to $990,252.
Environmental concerns has been a large reason for so many delays over the years. Because of concerns related to the Giant Garter Snake, the contractor will not be able to work within the Hamilton Slough waterway between October 1, 2013 and May 1, 2014.
