  • The death toll from Saturday's head-on collision near Dustin Acres has risen to three.
    Brian Maloy, the driver of a Chevrolet Malibu that swerved into the path of a pickup died early Sunday morning at Kern Medical Center, the Kern County Coroner said in a news release issued late Monday after Maloy's family had been notified.
    Maloy, 31, of McKittrick was critically injured in the crash that killed a passenger in his car, Carlos Sanchez, 28 of Bakersfield, and a passenger in the truck Chad Everett, 32, of Taft.
    The driver of the pickup, Dennis Gathings Jr., 39, and a passenger in the truck, Charles Lewis, 48, of Taft, suffered major injuries.
    Maloy was placed under arrest after the crash for felony driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.
