  • Our beloved Carolyn Faye Mattly was born on September 11, 1941 in Gatesville, Texas to Jesse and Lois Hancock. The family soon relocated to northern California, where she would remain the majority of her life. She received training in secretarial work after graduating high school in Sacramento and would continue in that line of work intermittently throughout her life. Carolyn's true beauty was visible in her personal selflessness and compassion for others. Her caring for those around her was felt by all who knew her. She was tireless in her aid of ailing and elderly family members whose final years she made comfortable including her father, her mother-in-law, two aunts, an uncle and, most recently, her mother whom she loved completely. The ever-present unconditional love and understanding she had for her children and grandchildren will live on for generations to come and the bond that exists between Carolyn and her husband of 47 years is such that it will not be broken by death. Carolyn lost her valiant battle against lymphoma on August 20, 2013. Cancer may have taken her life, but her spirit remains with all who were touched by her beauty and grace. Carolyn is survived by: her mother, Lois Gibbins, of Sacramento; husband, Will Mattly, of Elk Grove; daughter, Debbie Mattly, of Chico; son, David Mattly and wife Merri, of Chico; daughter, Patsy Nemetz and husband Rob, of Wilton; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brothers, Gerry Gibbins, of Sacramento, and Barry Hancock, of North San Juan. She was preceded in death by her brother Ricky Hancock. A celebration in honor of Carolyn's life will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 11 a.m., at Ramsey Funeral Home (1175 Robinson Street, Oroville, California). A graveside service will immediately follow at Oroville Cemetery. All are welcome to attend a reception immediately following the graveside service at a location to be announced. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to the charity of your choice in Carolyn's honor. Arrangements are entrusted to Ramsey Funeral Home 530-534-3877.
