  • Markle arrested for murder of Shirley Ann Pratt in 2001

  • While serving a 90 day sentence for probation violation in Butte County Jail, Marvin Markle Jr., AKA “Ziggy,” 47, of Biggs was charged for the murder of Shirley Ann Pratt. On October 12, 2001 at 7 a.m., the Butte County Sheriff’s Office received a call stating that a woman’s body was lying in the roadway in the Oroville Wildlife Area near the Vance Avenue, Biggs, California entrance. Deputies responded to the scene and located a deceased female, identified as Shirley Ann Pratt (Age 41) from Biggs, CA who appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound. An autopsy confirmed that Pratt died from a gunshot wound to the head. The investigation into the murder of Shirley Pratt has been ongoing. Several years ago, detectives began receiving information linking Marvin Ray Markle, to the Pratt murder investigation. Advances in DNA technology assisted with the development of this case. Markle was on probation from a March 2012 incident when he spit on a Vacaville woman who was conducting a peace walk in Biggs. On January 6, 2013, Markle drove by another peace walk being held at B and First Streets and yelled at the same woman within the restraining order constraints breaking probation. Markle was charged for the murder of Shirley Ann Pratt on Thursday, July 18, 2013. Markle remains in Butte County Jail, Oroville with no bail set and arraignment set for Monday, July 22, 2013 in Butte County Superior Court.
