Gridley brought home the Junior League California District 47 All-Star Championship banner after cruising past Lake Oroville by a score of 10-0 in the championship match of the tournament on Monday.
Gridley opened the tournament with a 15-5 victory over Palermo in Willows on June 29. In that game, Brian Wilkerson was awarded the Todd Hunter Stewart award. The recipient of the Todd Stewart award, or the “Respect the Game” award, is selected by the game’s official score keepers and given to a player on each team who best represents what the true spirit of Little League is all about.
Gridley followed that win by playing Lake Oroville. Gridley took the game, 12-0, after ten-running Lake Oroville. Jace Villapania was awarded the Todd Stewart award in that game.
Gridley faced off against Lake Oroville for a second time in the tournament championship on Monday after Lake Oroville pulled out a victory over Willows on Saturday. The fate of Lake Oroville wasn’t much different, as Gridley again shut them out. Gridley took home the District 47 Championship banner after winning the championship game over Lake Oroville, 10-0.
Gridley now advances to Section 2 tournament play, and will start that campaign by playing Feather River (Portola) on Saturday at 6:00 PM in Quincy.
Gridley Junior All-Stars include Brian Wilkerson, Colby Pantaleoni, Frank Leyva, Ty Cota, Ernesto Caudillo, Austin Knipe, Kaleb Gill, Jared Kopp, Sammy Cota, Tyler Woolery, and Jace Villapania. The team manager is Art Cota, and the coaches are Jason Kopp and Gary Knipe.
