  • Robert Bruce Ryan passed away on June 29, 2013, at Wynwood Assisted Living in Medford, Ore. He was 83 years old.
Bob was born in Milwaukee, Wis., on March 23, 1930.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Violet Ryan, currently of Medford; sons Randy Ryan of Palisades, Calif., and Lock Ryan of Las Vegas, Nev.; stepdaughters Sheilla Shrock of Montague and Dianna Husbands of Canby, Ore.; eight grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Bob and Violet moved to Yreka in 2011 to be close to their daughter. They resided at Oakridge Retirement Community. Yreka had been Bob’s home in 1946, where he had one of his first jobs working in a photo shop on Miner Street. Bob and Violet were married in 1974 and resided in Palmdale. Robert liked to boast that he had gotten his lovely wife from a newspaper ad.
Robert spent most of his adult life working for Lockheed in the different departments constructing airplanes and doing specialized testing. He was a licensed ham radio operator and spent many happy hours communicating with people from all over the world. He and Violet, in later years, owned and operated a store in Salem, Ore., called Victorian Vi’s, where they constructed and sold miniature houses and made inch-to-foot size furniture and houses. Bob had been very crafty with woodworking, making doll furniture for his wife’s collections and for his granddaughters. When illness forced Bob to forgo his other hobbies, Bob began years of communication on the computer with new friends around the United States. Bob was loved and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Girdner Funeral Chapel in Yreka. Private inurnment will be at the Smyrna Cemetery in Canby, Ore.
