A Mass of Christen burial will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Carmen Chavez, 75 of Gridley. Carmen passed away on June 1, 2013, in Chico, California.
Carmen was born in Michoacán, Mexico on November 13, 1937 to José Maria and Francisca Chavez.
Carmen moved to Gridley 17 years ago to be close to her family. She loved to sing, and watch her soap operas on T.V. Her biggest joy was being with her family and grandchildren. She loved walking and attending church, reading her scriptures and praying with her rosary. Carmen was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Carmen was preceded in death by her parents and one son Daniel Mejia.
Carmen was dearly loved, and is survived by her children, Elvira Duran, of Monte Rey, California, Heriberto Mejia, of Live Oak, Alina Mejia, of Yuba City, Rosa Mejia, of Gridley, Lupe Mejia, of Chico, Mary Mejia, of Mexico, Javier Mejia, of San Jose California; two sisters, Maria Chavez, Felipa Chavez; one brother, Ramon Chavez, all of Mexico, 28 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on June 10, 2013, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel, and a Rosary will be at 7 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Father Avram Brown will officiate at the Mass Service.
Arrangements are entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.
