Several local athletes qualified for the Northern Section Master’s Meet that will take place today at West Valley High School. Field events will begin at 4:00PM and track events are set to begin at 6:00PM.
Marisela Cardenas will compete in the girls’ shot put after qualifying last Friday with a distance of 41-03.5. The closest qualifying distance to Cardenas was 35-11.00. Cardenas's shot put PR of 42-01 is currently the top distance in the entire Northern Section.
Live Oak’s Adrian Silva will compete in the long jump, with a qualifying distance of 19-07.00, and the 400m after qualifying with a time of 52.62.
Gridley senior Tyler Abrego is to compete in the boys’ high jump after qualifying with a 6-00.00 leap in Wheatland last Friday.
Gridley distance runners Averie Roberts and Brennah Payne both qualified for the 1600m and the 3200m. Roberts qualified with times of 5:36.75 (1600m) and 12:39.82 (3200m), while Payne ran a time of 5:44.36 in the 1600m and 12:48.40 in the 3200m at the Division II finals.
Gridley junior Ryan King will serve as an alternate in the boys’ 800m and 1600m. Senior Joaquin Johnson will act as an alternate in the boys’ 110m hurdles.
