NSCIF Division II finals Several athletes from the Gridley Track and Field program competed at the NSCIF Division II Finals at John Sohrakoff Jr. Field in Wheatland on Friday. Leading the Bulldogs’ varsity boys division was Tyler Abrego with a victory in the high jump at 6’0. Joaquin Johnson placed third in the 100m hurdles (18.29) and fourth in the 300m (46.37). Johnson teamed with Chad Brown, Ryan King, and Tom Hunter for fourth place in the 4x400m with a time of 4:25.70. King took fourth in both the 800m (2:12.75) and the 1600m (4:56.35), while Hunter finished in sixth place in the 800m (2:30.15). For the second straight week, Gridley’s Averie Roberts won both the 1600m (5:36.75) and the 3200m (12:39.82) to lead Gridley’s varsity girls. Brennah Payne finished in second in the 3200m (12.48.40) and third in the 1600m (5:44.36). Marisela Cardenas won the shot put with a distance of 41’03.5, and she took seventh in the discus (98’10). Alexa Garcia finished in fourth place in the triple jump (29’07.5), and Samantha Forest finished fourth in the 3200m (15:47.28). Ashtyn Macfarlane took seventh in both the 100m hurdles (18.73) and long jump (13’10.25). Taylor Miskin took first in the JV boys’ 300m hurdles (43.04) and second in the 110m hurdles (17.18). Gridley’s 4x400m relay team of Jonah Derder, Benjamin Sannar, Angel Santana, and Carlos Ruiz won the event with a time of 3:47.62, while the team of Santana, Tanner Ramsey, Derder, and Keysean Johnson placed second the 4x100m relay (46.81). Santana placed second in the 100m (11.74) and fifth in the 200m (24.18), while Johnson finished third in the 110m hurdles (17.53). Sannar took third in the 1600m (5:02.07) and fifth in the 800m (2:18.70), while Luis Escalanta took third place in the high jump (5’02). Derder finished fifth in the triple jump (34’08), followed by Escalanta in sixth (34’01). Derder also had a sixth place finish in the 110m hurdles (18.41). Vincent Sanchez took sixth in the discus (95’06), while Jose Vasquez finished sixth in the shot put (39’0). For the JV girls, Marin Spears won the shot put (32’0) and the discus (98’02). Jamie Burr won the 100m hurdles (17.38) and placed third in the 300m hurdles (54.74). Lauren Solis won the long jump (15’02.25) and placed third in the 200m (28.45). Elizabeth Osbourn took second in the triple jump (29’03) and placed fourth in the high jump (4’06). Katie Paredes tied Osbourn in the high jump at 4’06. Joanna Sanchez placed fourth in the 100m hurdles (18.37) and seventh in the 300m hurdles (57.11). Sarah Compton placed fourth in the 3200m (17:11.17) and sixth in the 1600m (7:25.38). NSCIF Division III finals Live Oak High School had a number of athletes perform at the divisional finals in Shasta on Friday. Adrian Silva, a sophomore, put on quite the performance after he ran a time of 52.62 in the 400m to secure a victory in the event and qualify for the Northern Section finals this Friday. Silva won the varsity long jump as well with a distance of 19’7, not only beating his previous personal record of 18’9.5 by almost a foot but also setting a new Live Oak High School record. He took third place in the 200m (24.09). Fellow sophomore Lacey Herbert placed second in the varsity girls 300m hurdles with a time of 53.60. Marcella Anderson placed fourth in the 200m with a personal best time of 28.58. Nathan Alcaraz ran a personal best of 25.9 in the JV boys’ 200m to take third place, while also running a personal best in the 800m (2:26.46). The JV girls’ 4x100m relay team of Kasandra Rockwell, Guadalupe Tinoco, Vanessa Arredondo, and Manpreet Cheema won the event with a time of 56.46. Tinoco won the JV girls 200m (29.73) and placed third in the 100m (14.73). Cheema won the high jump (4’6) and placed second in the 200m (PR – 30.33). Juanita Hernandez placed second in both the 800m (PR – 2:42.31) and the 1600m (6:08.46), while Vanessa Arredondo finished in third place in the 100m hurdles with a personal best of 20.43. NSCIF Division IV finals Biggs High School freshmen Juan Vera and Pedro Gomez represented the Wolverines at the Northern Section Division IV finals on Friday in Cottonwood. Vera threw a distance of 35’1.5 in the JV boys’ shot put to take third place. Gomez placed fourth in the JV boys’ discus with a distance of 78’1.
