  • Several Lions came back to Live Oak wearing Sacramento Valley League Championship medals after competing at the Sacramento Valley League Championship Meet last Tuesday in Mt. Shasta. The champions along with the second place medalists—in both the varsity and JV divisions—qualified to advance to Friday’s NSCIF Division III Championship at Shasta High School in Redding.

  • Several Lions came back to Live Oak wearing Sacramento Valley League Championship medals after competing at the Sacramento Valley League Championship Meet last Tuesday in Mt. Shasta. The champions along with the second place medalists—in both the varsity and JV divisions—qualified to advance to Friday’s NSCIF Division III Championship at Shasta High School in Redding. In the varsity boys' division, Junior Andrew Lopez was a double champion for Live Oak’s varsity team after placing first in both the 1600m (4:43.41) and 3200m (10:32.12) for the second straight year. Sophomore Adrian Silva leaped a personal best of 18-95” to win the long jump. Silva’s time of 24.07 in the 200m gave him a second place finish. He also placed second in the 400m with a personal best time of 52.49—the 10th fastest time in the Northern Section this year. Senior Jessica Ontiveros had a first place time of 14.09 in the varsity girls 100m and placed second in the 200m at 28.98, while sophomore Lacey Herbert took first in the 300m hurdles at 54.03. Freshman Marcella Anderson was just 00.02 away from qualifying for the section meet in the 200m with a third place time of 29.00. Mara Johnson joined Herbert, Ontiveros and Anderson to take third in the varsity girls' 4x100m with a time of 55.67. Kevin Rockwell finished second in the JV boys' 3200m at 12:41.95, while sophomore Fernando Medina picked up a third place medal in the JV boys' 1600m (5:31.16). For the JV girls, Guadalupe Tinoco took first in 200m with a time of 29.86 and second in the 100m at 14.49. Manpreet Cheema’s personal best 200m time of 30.56 and a high jump height of 4-4 gave her two second place medals. Kasandra Rockwell placed second in the shotput with a distance of 22-08. The all freshman team of Tinoco, Rockwell, Vanessa Arredondo and Cheema made up the winning JV girls' 4x100m team with a 57.43 finish. Juanita Hernandez finished second in both the 800m (personal record of 2:47.04) and the 1600m (6:11.49), both qualifying her for Friday's meet. Live Oak’s JV girls finished third overall in team points with 83 points despite having several freshmen and sophomores compete at the varsity level.
