  • Michael Catbagan, the Lions’ number one player, made his way all the way to the SVL Singles Finals, but had to withdraw from the championship due to muscle cramps. Catbagan had also teamed with Jose Gonzalez to make it to the SVL Doubles Championship match; however, because of Catbagan’s withdraw, the team had to default their double championship match. The default proved to have little damage for the Lions’, as it allowed Live Oak’s number two team of Aaron Pamma and Inderjit Singh to take their place in the doubles finals. After three matches, the team of Pamma and Singh pulled out a victory over Willows’ number one team to win the Sacramento Valley League’s doubles championship (6-3, 2-6, 6-1). Catbagan, Gonzalez, Pamma and Singh each earned all-SVL status for their performance at the SVL Tournament. The Lions’ four all-SVL players will compete over the weekend in the Northern Section Singles and Doubles championships in Chico. Live Oak hosted Sutter on Tuesday for the semi-finals of the NSCIF Division II Team Championships, but stats were not available at press time.
