  • The house of Molly and Steve Williams, the owners of Max’s Miracle Ranch, and their eight children caught on fire on Thursday afternoon. The family was out of town in Vallejo when the fire burned the upstairs and gutted the inside of the home located northeast of Biggs in the 3400 block of Highway 99. The fire was reported by a passerby around 2:00 PM, according to Cal Fire spokesperson Mary Ann Aldrich, and three fire engines responded. No persons were located inside the house, but an elderly dog was rescued from the flames. The facilities of Max’s Miracle Ranch were undamaged by the fire, which is currently under investigation. Firefighters were able to save a handful of photographs, the family’s china set, and the family dog from the blaze. Max's Miracle Ranch provides a retreat for people who have seriously ill children and offers yearly public events such as Winter Wonderland. The Gridley Herald and Pizza RoundUp will be collecting clothing for the Williams family following the loss of their home. Pizza Roundup, at the corner of Highway 99 and B street in Biggs, will also be holding a fundraiser for the Williams family on April 16. A percentage of the proceeds from sales will go to the family, as well as the money raised through a silent auction that evening from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Donations can be made to an account set up for the family at Butte Federal Credit Union in Biggs. Please refer to Molly Williams when making donations. Donations can also be made at the Chico and Oroville branches.
