  • Mary Elizabeth Garcia was brought into this world on November 9th, 1920, and left a legacy of warmth, love, and kindness on March 12, 2013 at the age of 92. Mary began life as a Lopez in Glenn County and was the third eldest of 11 siblings. She helped raise her younger sibling and always had a great attitude about it, even when times were rough like living through the Great Depression. She then met a man that would change her life forever, John A. Garcia. Mary Elizabeth married John Garcia on December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor Day. They moved to the Bay Area, but shortly returned to Glenn and started a Grade A dairy. They eventually sold it and became some of the pioneers of rice farming in Glenn. They continued their farming in Biggs, which became their final home. Mary regularly attended the First Baptist Church in Biggs, where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School until age 75. She was an Eastern Star Officer for over 15 years and a Volunteer at the Biggs Library for 10 years. Those that knew Mary would strongly agree that she was tender and gentle, but one of the strongest people they’ve ever met. Mary was full of life, outgoing, and a devout Christian, who demonstrated a great example for the people around her. She had a strong sense of community and always yearned to touch the lives of others.. In her later years, her favorite activity was watching her great granddaughters’ softball games in the Lincoln area. At 92 years old, she remained sharp with great composure and enjoyed to engage in conversations about her two greatest loves in her life, God and her family. Mary Elizabeth was preceded in death by John A. Garcia and her two sons Mike Garcia and Paul Garcia. She is survived by her two daughters, Gloria Baldwin and Judy Verry Hennen, her grandchildren Joe Garcia, Ryan Garcia, Mathew Garcia, Byron Baldwin, Damien Baldwin, and Shelley Summers and 8 Great Grandchildren. Mary E. Garcia had many friends and the family wishes to thank each one of you for being a part of her life! She will be greatly missed.
