The Gridley High School Softball team has embarked on a six game winning streak after three wins over Orland last week, and taking all three games at the Biggs tournament—including a victory in the final game against the hosting Lady Wolverines.
The Gridley High School Softball team has embarked on a six game winning streak after three wins over Orland last week, and taking all three games at the Biggs tournament—including a victory in the final game against the hosting Lady Wolverines. Last Thursday in a home victory over Orland, the Lady Bulldogs won their third straight against the Trojans from Orland, 6-2. Junior Megan Anthony—who has the team high batting average at .400—went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Senior Fraine Cox hit 2 for 4, including two doubles and one RBI. Senior Sandra Dreesman went 3 for 3 with an RBI. In their first game at the Biggs Softball Tournament, the girls picked up a decisive 23-3 victory over Princeton and did not slow down after that. Fraine Cox finished 2 for 3 with a homerun and five RBIs, while Megan Anthony went 3 for 3 with a triple and four RBIs. Victoria Ingram finished 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI. Whitney Hall also picked up a double, as did Mikaela Ponciano who went 3 for 3. Megan Anthony went 2 for 4 with double in a victory over Portola. Ariel Ingram also picked up a double and finished 2 for 3. Sophomore Dominique Nelson stepped up behind the plate with seven strikeouts. In the final game against the hosting Biggs Lady Wolverines, Nelson took over behind the mound from Cox and struck out six straight to seal the victory over the tournament hosts. Ashtyn MacFarlane finished with three RBIs and a double after going 1 for 3, while Ariel Ingram went 2 for 4. Nelson finished 1 for 3, as did Victoria Ingram and Fraine Cox. The girls will play Wheatland on April 9, which could likely be their toughest game of the season.
