Each year the Gridley Lions Club gathers together to dye an amazing amount of eggs for the annual egg hunt held at Vierra Park.
This is a wonderful event this club has put on for many years and they are quick to praise Safeway Stores for providing 350 of the 400 dozen eggs provided for area children.
It is such a beautiful sight to see the children lining up waiting patiently in their Easter finery. Little girls are especially cute in their frilly spring dresses, some complete with hats. As anticipation rises, Lion Mike Dahl can be heard over the loudspeaker announcing the time remaining until the whistle blows. Butte County Royalty was on hand to help and all dressed in pink and black which made it easy to spot them amongst the children running as they looked for their eggs. Many thanks to these gals also for their help. The weather was perfect and children were not disappointed with the rain that later hit on Easter Day. Following the egg hunt, children and their parents converged on the other activities at Vierra Park such as the Community Garden Anniversary Spring Opening Celebration hosted by the Gridley Business Improvement District. PoPo the clown was there to make balloon animals for the little ones and Nicole Agins brought her People to People Fund raising with “Dirt” dessert and “Bug Juice.” Fairy gardens were a big hit as people watched them being assembled and even took seeds home to plant. The Gridley FFA built the boxes for the fairy gardens. Daisy Girl Scouts were on hand to help in the celebration along with Cal Fresh and Eagle Scout Adam Law who is building a tool shed for the garden as his project. The next activity for the Business Improvement District will be the “Home, Arts, Business, Crafts, Garden Fair” Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m., to 3 p.m., at the Butte County Fairgrounds. The cost is $30 inside with a 10x10 booth space or $25 outside. Call Jerry at 846-3687 to reserve your space.
