  • BUTTE HUMANE SOCIETY NOW OFFERING CAT REHOMING SERVICESSurrender of Owned Cats Available By Appointment
To better serve the community’s pet owners, Butte Humane Society (BHS) is now offering a rehoming service to take adoptable cats from the public into their adoption program.   Surrendered cats are accepted by appointment only, to ensure that space and resources are available. BHS strives to accept all adoptable cats while maintaining a high standard of care.
To surrender your cat to BHS, an application process, appointment, and $25 rehoming fee is required. The rehoming application is available online, along with alternative options to surrendering your cat. The application and more information about BHS rehoming services can be found at www.buttehumane.org/page/rehoming-services.php.  Though many people are able to rehome their pets through social networking and classified sites like Craigslist, BHS can provide an alternate way to safely rehome your pet in times of need. All animals accepted into our adoption program are kept as long as it takes to find the right home, and BHS will always welcome back an animal adopted from them. BHS previously stopped accepting public surrenders in February 2011 when the City of Chico Animal Services assumed this responsibility and began operating the City shelter where surrendered pets are taken in.The City of Chico Animal Services recently revised their policy to discontinue taking healthy adult owned or stray cats. This increased community demand for rehoming services for adoptable owned cats, leading BHS to develop the new cat rehoming program.
