Exciting progress at Mi C.A.S.A. this Winter!
PARENT APPRECIATION DINNER honored school officials and teachers, Computers For Classroom executives, parents, staff and students. Each family donated one authentic Mexican dish which was thoroughly appreciated. Certificates of Appreciation were presented to all parents for their devoted support of their students and commitment to Mi CASA. High point success in reading and in math for both September and October was rewarded.
The annual MiCASA board meeting followed the dinner. The resignation of Betty Barajas was received with regret.Cindy McIntire was nominated and elected to fill the vacancy.
Mi CASA distributed 52 Thanksgiving Food Boxes which fed 217 people. Items included were fresh produce, canned goods, baking pan, poultry (a choice of chicken or turkey), and some packaged products. Every family of regularly participating students received a box, as well as 5 senior citizen grandparent households.
Tutor Appreciation Christmas party held at the home of Kathy McKenzie. There was a gift exchange and Christmas card writing.
Student Christmas party included local Fireman to strengthen community relationships with Mi C.A.S.A. children and families. Firemen passed out the gifts (which had been personally selected by each child's tutor), Kathy led caroling, Margaret brought cookies to decorate and pizza to devour, and the tutors guided coloring Christmas cards for parents. 34 families received Christmas food boxes, as well as several senior households. The children and Families had fund-raised to pay for this event in their fall Tamalada fundraiser.
First Presbyterian Church local mission project donated 54 thick zip-up sweatshirts to our students.
The Butte County Fire Department provided First Aid Training to 14 tutors and students. Each participant received a certificate and first aid kit.
Second and Third Graders went to the Snow Goose Festival in Chico. Students played games and made craft projects that taught them about bird adaptions, wild life protection, Butte County habitat and snow goose migration. They met hawks, owls, crawdads and snakes. They were very excited all day!
Fourth Graders went to Sacramento for the FREE Museum Day. They visited McClellan Air Museum, Sutter's Fort, the Indian Museum, California History Museum, and the Railroad Museum. It was a day of bringing the history text book to life.
Fifth Graders went to see the musical "Sound of Music" on the Chico Theater stage. We had front row seats!
Valentine's Day Party. 50 students decorated Valentine cookies, played games, made appreciation cards for sponsors and parents, colored valentine pictures. The tutors decorated the hall, covered the tables, and directed the many activities.
