The Gridley Lions Club recently hosted the annual Student Speaker Contest for the South Zone of the North Butte Region. This Zone Contest involves the Lions Clubs of Oroville, Biggs, Gridley, and Live Oak. This year’s topic is “How Do We Create and Keep Jobs in America”.
Speaking before a full house of supporters, Lions and friends, were three high school students from Oroville, Gridley, and Live Oak. Representing the Oroville Ophir Lions Club was Nicholas Shirley, the Gridley Club was Brennah Payne, and the Live Oak Club was Frances Childers. The winner of the contest was Brennah Payne of Gridley. She receive $100 for this competition. Brennah will go on to compete at the Region Contest in Chico on March 27 at 7 p.m. at the Wittmeier Ford dealership theater. This contest is open to the public. There, Brennah will compete against the Zone winners from Chico and Forest Ranch, the Zone of Hamilton City, Red Bluff, and Willows as well as the winner from the Lions Clubs in Chester, Gray Eagle and Quincy.
