Alyssa Lizardo, a senior at Gridley High School, took fourth place at Masters in October of 2012 with a time of 00:58.32 in the 100 freestyle. This was Lizardo’s third straight year making it to the Masters Swim Championships. At the NSCIF Division II Section Championship, Lizardo placed third. Lizardo said she expected to do well at the championships, but she feels she did much better than she had initially anticipated. She commented that at the Division II level, she would usually come in first but swimming against schools in over divisions, especially the bigger Division I schools. She said that this was her best performance at Masters, and she took two seconds off of her time from last year.
“It was exciting,” she said. “I was happy because I have worked so hard for it.”
She plans to attend Butte College after graduation, where she will study History. She hopes to become a History teacher after college.
Lizardo has been swimming since she was four years old, and she currently swims for FRAC in Yuba City.
