The Sycamore boys basketball team has had an impressive season this year. The pups continued to add to the win column with a big win last week over Yuba Gardens and a win at Foothill. On Tuesday, the pups traveled to McKenney and came away with another win by a score of 37-22. The boys did show some signs of the four-day weekend and not having practiced for five days. The boys got off to a very slow first half start. “We were more beatable today than we’ve been all season,” explained coach Mike Erickson. “We had lay-up after lay-up and they wouldn’t fall. Kids that can shoot from the outside couldn’t buy a bucket.” The boys amassed 12 points for the entire first half, leading 12-8.
In the second half, the boys finally found a scoring groove, hitting for 25 points in the final two quarters. The pups were led out of the woods by the inside scoring of Brandon Lara, the defense of Angel Gonzales, and the point guard leadership of Trever Facey, Brian Wilkerson, and Randy Miller. Lara led all scorers in the game with 11 points. The pups conclude their season with the annual Kiwanis Invitational 7th grade basketball tournament. “We’re still not playing our best basketball. There’s still room to improve, and we’ve got a long way to go to stay perfect.”
