  • Sutter High School hosted the 2012-2013 Northern Section CIF Division II championships over the weekend. Gridley High School took seventh place with 71 points.

  • Sutter High School hosted the 2012-2013 Northern Section CIF Division II championships over the weekend. Gridley High School took seventh place with 71 points.
    Haiden Johnson (122) took the Northern Section Division II crown for Gridley after crushing his opponents throughout the event. In the first round of the tournament, Johnson pinned Jack Gibbons of West Valley. He then took on Wheatland’s Ryan Franken and won by a major decision 13-4. For the championship, he wrestled Orland’s Quinton Hill, and won by a 3-0 decision.
    Skyler Franklin (108) brought Gridley a 3rd place medal with a 5-1 win over Wheatland’s Robert Zatraneau. Jonathan Villapania (147) also took 3rd with 4-1 decision over Anderson’s Tristan Smith.
    Kyle Rutter (154) rounded out Gridley's Masters qualifiers with a 4th place finish.
    Gridley’s Colton Franklin (128), Frankie Quintero (140), and Tom Hunter (184) each placed 5th. Noel Tinoco (222) placed 6th.
    Live Oak's Kirk Thao (128) took 2nd place, and Andrew Lopez (115) placed 3rd. Both qualified for Masters.
    Kyle Lee (122), Miguel Contreras (172), and Brandon Torres (287) each placed 6th for Live Oak. Michael Carter (134), Juan Zermeno (140), Ed Lopez (147), and Adrian Lopez (162) placed 7th at Sections.
    NSCIF Division IV Wrestling Championships
    Biggs took third in Division IV. Individual results were not available.
