  • Stating that issues between the City of Biggs and Laborers Local 185 had never reached a level when the two entities could not work things out in the past, Biggs City Attorney Greg Einhorn presented a draft letter to Biggs Council members Tuesday night to be sent to the union.
The Biggs Council meeting room was filled to capacity with concerned residents.
"On January 30, 2013, a Letter to the Editor appeared in The Gridley Herald on behalf of the union that represents Local 185. I believe in my role as City Attorney it warrants a response," Einhorn told Council members.
"In my view, this letter was a tactic in labor negotiations I felt were not constructive to the employees and not helpful to the Council or people of Biggs. The city has been best served when we have had discussions in a professional and civil way. As long as I have been here, since 1986, we have never had a situation with Local 185 when we haven't been able to meet in a civil way," Einhorn stated.
He further stated to Council members that he had prepared a draft letter to be sent to Mr. John Flem, Business Agent of Laborers Local 185 which would be sent with direction from Council members.
When the public was invited to speak, a member of the audience asked if the letter would be sent to The Gridley Herald to which Einhorn stated it would not.
Mayor Frith answered, "I would like to see this worked out amongst us in order to have operations run smoothly. The letter is being mailed to the union but The Gridley Herald can print whatever they choose."
Einhorn's letter stated, "I was very disappointed to see Laborers Local 185 January 30, 2013 Letter to The Gridley Herald. For the rest of this story please pick up a 2/15/13 edition of The Gridley Herald.
