  •         Excitement building at the south end of Kentucky Street at the former home of Libby, McNeil & Libby last Thursday was not created by Clean Flame, the producers of firelogs but a much different type of industry – that of Mary's Gone Crackers.
Mary's Gone Crackers produces gluten free, dairy free, vegan, certified organic and kosher crackers, cookies and pretzels.
The business began in Gridley in 2004 when it incorporated with Mary Waldner of Paradise acting as Chairman & Founder and her husband, Dale Rodrigues, CEO, President & Founder.
Located in a 54,000 square foot building in the old cannery complex, the business was raided by the U.S. Department of Justice Thursday, January 31, 2013 for hiring illegal employees.
Search warrants were served at the business at 100 Kentucky Street  but no criminal charges were filed as of Friday, February 1, 2013.
Investigators estimate that at least 49 of the 159 employees could not show proper documentation during an audit held last March. Investigators believe all 49 social security numbers provided by the business were fraudulent.
Immigration officers were told last May that 48 of the 49 employees no longer worked at the facility. Officials believe that 13 supervisors were fired and rehired a week later, with the business giving all 13 assumed names to conceal their real identities from government officials, the warrant stated.
Computers from the plant were confiscated during the raid.
