Make it five wins in a row for the Sycamore boys 7th graders. The pups easily dispatched of visiting McKenney by a score of 37-19. The boys never trailed in the game, but they do have a bad habit of getting off to slow starts. “It seems like it takes us most of the first quarter to find a rhythm,” said coach Mike Erickson. “It seems like it takes a key shot or a nice defensive play to get us up and running.” That boost came on a nice lay-up by Ahmed Khan early in the quarter which put the pups up 8 to 2. After that, Brandon Lara was able to hit a couple of layups and the pups were rolling.
A few really nice assists helped to keep everyone in the game. Tyler Little scored on a pair of out-of-bounds plays with assists by Trevor Facey and Brian Wilkerson. Facey also dumped a nice pass down low to Little later in the second quarter which helped to push the lead to 21-4 at the half. The pups pulled back into a 2-3 zone and cruised to an easy win. The pups were led in scoring by Randy Miller with 11 points including shooting 3 for 4 from the free-thrown line. In 5 games this year, the pups have had 4 different leading scorers. It is a true testament to the depth and balance of talent on this team. The pups play games next Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The weekend games happen when Sycamore plays host in the annual Ray Roberts Tournament held in honor of the life and service Ray Roberts provided to Gridley Schools and the community. Come on out and watch some really great basketball.
