In a rematch from the Ron Pritchard Invitational, the Live Oak Lions’ varsity basketball team lost a close one to the Lindhurst Blazers. The Lions (6-3) faced the Blazers from Lindhurst (5-3) in the semi-finals, but Live Oak was topped by a score of 56-47.
On Wednesday of last week, the Lions fell in a similar setting but this time in Lindhurst. The Lions led by 11 points going into the 4th quarter by a score of 58-47. The Blazers rallied during the final period by putting together a 17-0 run at one point. Acosta led the Lions with 22 points, and Aaron Pamma finished with an impressive 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Tyler Raymond had a great night as well and put up 15 points.
Live Oak now will shift their focus to the Sacramento Valley League. In their first SVL matchup against the Honkers out of Willows, the Lions won by a score of 52-48.
Tuesday night, the Lions crushed the visiting Trojans from Durham by a score of 47-35. I wouldn’t say the score really reflected how the game went however. Romario Acosta led the scoring for the Lions with 19 points—including three 3-pointers in the first half—along with five steals. Gurbeer Kooner finished with seven points, while Tony Arrellano, Aaron Pamma, Simeren Pamma, Pardeep Ginda each had four points. Aaron Pamma also grabbed seven rebounds and had five assists. Tyler Raymond picked up three points and six rebounds.
The Lions will take on East Nicholas (2-5, 1-0) on Friday. Coach Zach Wilson is confident with the teams’ performance going into their next SVL matchup.
