A reception was held by the Gridley City Council for outgoing Council members Dan Boeger and Vice Mayor Dave Garner Monday night as their seats were filled by Planning Commissioner Jeff Draper and former Council member Frank Hall. Draper gave up his Planning Commission duties when elected to the City Council in the November 6, 2012 election. Hall previously served on the Council 13 years.

Proclamations from the City Council, Congressman Wally Herger (his last official duty) and Butte County Board of Supervisor Steve Lambert were presented along with framed American flags to both Boeger and Garner with Mayor Jerry Fichter thanking them both for their many accomplishments while serving four years each. Councilman Owen Stiles was congratulated on being appointed another four years to the Council.

Councilman Draper was elected as Mayor with Councilman Pedro Mota as Mayor Pro Tem.

In accepting the new title, Draper stated it was very humbling and he was very honored by the Council's trust in him.

"I am also very sad. This lady (Fichter) has done a lot as mayor the past six years. She has done a lot for this community. I'm a better person for knowing you," he said to Fichter.

During Committee Reports, Mayor Pro Tem Mota stated the Recreation Department's Breakfast With Santa was another hit and very well attended. "Thank you to Malanee for doing a great job once again," he stated.

Councilwoman Fichter told fellow Council members that the tree lighting was very nice at the hospital with the essay contest winner Alexis Ceja lighting the tree and this tradition was started by former Mayor Pro Tem Garner. "She will ride in the parade tomorrow and the tree lighting was lovely," she said.
