  • A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 30, 2012, at 11 a.m., at the Gridley Christian Church, 580 Washington Street, for Kris Heidman, 64, of Gridley. Kris passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2012, with his family by his side following a valiant and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. A Celebration of Life reception will follow the memorial service at the Gridley Moose Lodge, 1533 Highway 99, at noon.
Kris was born on May 26, 1948 and was a lifelong resident of Gridley.  He attended Manzanita Elementary, Gridley High School and graduated from Butte College.  Kris served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in New Jersey.
After the Air Force, Kris returned to his farming roots in Gridley growing kiwifruit, peaches, prunes, walnuts and almonds.  He was among the pioneering members of the kiwifruit industry growing and managing vineyards and nursery stock and served on the California Kiwifruit Commission.  He also worked as a Crop Adjuster for the USDA Farm Service Agency.
Throughout his life he was well respected in his community.  He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing with his family and friends.  He especially enjoyed spending time during his younger years at Lake Almanor and later on at the family cabin at Bucks Lake fishing for trophy Mackinaw.  His latest passion was his Jeep and tackling the Rubicon Trail and the slick rock of Moab, Utah.
Kris was preceded in death by his parents Hans and Lorraine Heidman.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Patricia, of Gridley, and three sons: Eric and his wife, Lisa, of Turlock, Brian, of Gridley, and Jeff and his wife, Jessica, of San Jose.  He is also survived by his three loving granddaughters: Madeline, Jillian and Riley of Turlock.
The family suggests donations be made in memory of Kris Heidman to the Enloe Foundation, Infusion Center, 249 W. 6th Avenue, Chico, California 95926.
Arrangements are entrusted to Ullrey Memorial Chapel of Yuba City.
