A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 12:00 noon at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Ernest A. Casillas, 73, of Gridley. He passed away on Friday, November 2, 2012 at his residence in Gridley.
Ernie was born on January 2, 1939 in Pittsburg, California one of four sons born to Marion and Louisa Casillas.
He was a long time resident of Gridley, having taught school for 34 years at Gridley High School. He grew up in Westwood, California attended local schools, and graduated from Westwood High School class of 1956. He served in the United States Marine Corps during peace time and was stationed in North Carolina. After his military service he returned to California, and enrolled in college at Chico State. He graduated from Chico State class of 1965 with a Master Degree in fine arts. Ernie was a gifted artist and enjoyed painting and sharing his talent with others. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Richard Casillas.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Joanie Casillas of Gridley; two sons Paul Anthony Casillas and John Timothy (Cynthia) Casillas, both of Gridley; three grandchildren, Kayla, Miles and Thomas all of Gridley; two brothers, Edward Casillas of Arlington, Virginia, Steven Casillas of Pleasant Hill, California and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Rosary will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at 6 p.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Father Avram Brown of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will officiate the service.
The family suggests donations be given to Enloe Hospice and Sacred Heart Food Closet.
Interment will be held at the Gridley-Biggs Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.
