The Lions came into their season finale with an impressive 6-3 record, one win away from clinching a playoff spot. Luckily, their finale was played at home against a team that had yet to win a road game during the season. The home field advantage definitely gave the Lions an edge, who crushed Durham in a 28-0 blowout Friday night. The win was impressive, considering that one of the Lions’ star players, running back Cody Herbert, tore his ACL last week and is now out the rest of the season.
The Lions were relentless from the opening kickoff. Even though the Lions were stopped on their first possession and forced to punt, the Durham offense didn’t take long to mess up. In one play, Durham fumbled the football, then the Lions’ Romario Acosta picked it up and took it to the end zone for a quick 6 points. The Lions went for the 2 point conversion after the touchdown and were successful thanks to a pass by Acosta to Aaron Pamma.
The Lions defense stayed strong as they forced Durham to punt on their next offensive possession.
However, the Lions offense started to break the game open on their next possession when Acosta rushed into the end zone from 3 yards out. The Lions went back to the regular PAT after that touchdown, which Jose Medina kicked successfully, making the game 15-0.
The Lions were still not done in the first quarter. After the defense stopped Durham on 4th down, the Lions offense put yet another 6 points on their scoreboard thanks to another touchdown pass by Acosta, who connected with Aaron Pamma. Medina successfully kicked the PAT, putting his team up 22-0 before the 1st quarter clock ran out. For the rest of this story, please pick up a 11/7/12 edition of The Gridley Herald.
