  • John David Hammons (Dave/David) 52, of Gridley, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2012, in Chico, due to complications during an operation after years of ill health.
David was born July 16, 1960, in Oroville to Ralph and Fay Hammons, of Gridley, the youngest of four children. David grew up in Gridley going to Gridley schools. After his mother died in 1969, David moved quite a bit going to other schools and states but always considered Gridley and Biggs home.
While attending school in Gridley David met his one true love, Cathy (Cat) Davis. Dave did graduate but left before his prom. Cathy and David ran away to Ohio at age 15 and 17 in 1978, and returned to Gridley and married March 1979 and were two of the happiest couples you would want to meet. Married March 1979, a happy 33 years.
David worked for many years at the home Center owned by Cathy's father Alvin Davis Sr. Better Deal Exchange for six or seven years, in Oroville. David lived in Biggs with his wife and two children for 22 years just recently moving back to Gridley.
David was an avid sportsman, always looking forward to the upcoming season, hoping to best friends and family with the first, biggest or most which he usually did.
David loved telling jokes and even if it wasn't that funny you had to laugh when he laughed, you just couldn't help it. He had such an infection laugh. He will be remembered for many things, husband, father, papa, brother and friend, but his laugh will be remembered by all.
David is survived by his wife, Cathy Hammons, of Gridley; daughter, Corie Chaney (Tobin), of Biggs; son, Joshua Hammons (Serena), of Gridley. Seven grandchildren: Danielle, Tobin Jr., Joshua Jr., Thomas, Chelsea, Carissa, and Johnathan. He is also survived by sisters, Caulinbine Yost, of Ohio and Miranda Mangan (Kirk), of Biggs; father-in-law, Alvin Davis Sr., of Gridley; sister-in-law, Lorie Arnold (Ellis), of Arizona; brother-in-law, Alvin Davis Jr. (Jane), of Gridley; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and his beloved dogs, Lacy, Speckle and Maggie.
David was preceded in death by his mother Fay Hammons in 1969; his father Ralph Hammons, in 1996; brother Thomas Hammons in 1995 and mother-in-law Jerry Davis in 2009.
David requested no services be performed at his passing.
The family would like to welcome you in a celebration of his life, Saturday, October 27, 2012, at 2 p.m., at the Moose Lodge, in Gridley. Please join us at that time.
